Overview
The Animal Care Program (ACP) offers the UIUC community economical, efficient, and specialized services that support scientific research while upholding the highest animal welfare standards.
ACP’s shared services, equipment, resources, and expertise are provided on a fee-for-service basis (usually in the form of a recharge rate). The ACP tracks the costs associated with day-to-day animal care and use through time and expense tracking.
Billing for the costs associated with the purchase of animals, daily care of animals, technical assistance, and specialized research support services are billed monthly to departmental and/or investigator accounts. Charges appearing on monthly statements are for services rendered during the previous month (e.g., if reviewing a September statement, billed serviceswill be for the month of August, not September; September charges will appear in the October statement).
Per-diem rates for animal care, or direct charges for personnel costs and supplies, are based on the cost analysis and recovery procedures delineated in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Research Facilities. Cost analysis is completed biennially.
Services Covered By Per-diem Rates and Additional Fee-for-Service Options
Services covered by per diem rates include a variety of husbandry services, as well as certain veterinary technician and veterinary services. Additional fee-for-service options are also available.
