Nicole Herndon

Nikki Herndon manages the veterinary care, health, and welfare of research animals in the Edward R. Madigan Laboratory, Institute of Genomic Biology, and Veterinary Medicine Basic Science Building research facilities, including the large animal ABL2 containment facility in the ERML building. Herndon oversees rodent import/export procedures, the rodent quarantine facility, and the animal health surveillance program with the Division of Animal Resources. She is the primary veterinary contact for the adoption of retired research animals (dogs and cats).

Herndon is a voting member of the university’s IACUC and IBC committees and holds a 10% appointment with the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine with the College of Veterinary Medicine. In this role, she is the course coordinator for the laboratory animal medicine clinical rotation for 2nd- and 4th-year veterinary students. She is also the faculty advisor for the Laboratory Animal Medicine Club.
